In 2006, residents voted to purchase the Club from the previous owner, who was subsidizing annual dues. Over the next few years, dues went from $8,000 to $20,000 in addition to a $250,000 initiation fee. When you add in the recent, and in my opinion shortsighted, decision of their Country Club Board to spend $60M on upgrades, it all makes for a pretty hairy situation. Its important to point these things out when discussing Fisher Island real estate because they are truly unique (island, country club, waterfront, etc.). I can think of only one other similar community and that is Deering Bay in southeastern Coral Gables.
