Miami Shores Village News – September 2012

Jesse Walters, Miami Shores City Council member, lets us know that there are 19 positions open in different boards and commissions in Miami Shores.  I volunteered for years in the Historic Preservation Board and my dad, Ivor Hegedus, volunteered in Code Enforcement and Planning & Zoning.  We need new blood on these boards, so please apply!  And wouldn’t it be great if our Miami Shores Council would start setting limits for these as well!! There are some people who have been there for over 20 years and need to give someone else a chance.

Here’s Jesse’s communication:

Hello Miami Shores friends!

I wanted to let you all know that the Village will be filling 19 positions on various boards and commissions in October. The list of these boards and the number of open seats appears below, along with a brief description of the board or commission.

The deadline for submitting completed applications is Tuesday, September 25, 2012.  Simply download the application form here, complete, and return to Village Hall. Call Barbara Estep at (305) 762-4851 or email her if you have any questions or problems.

As part of my continuing effort to grow a more progressive, compassionate, and transparent Village government, I strongly urge you to consider volunteering.  With the recent spectacle of council having to censure a board member for conduct, and almost removing someone who has served 25 years, the time is never more urgent for new blood and sincere volunteers to step up!  I am particularly interested in supporting women, people of color, and members of the G/L/B/T community too.

If you have any questions about the process, or want to find out more please call me anytime at 305-333-8701.
