Fisher Island Invasion update

By: Ines Hegedus-Garcia on November 19, 2007

The Fisher Island Invasion turned out to be only 30 people swimming unto Fisher Island’s exclusive beaches.

Not much of a protest, not much coverage, but a protest nonetheless. Nicholas Spangler, from the Miami Herald, tells us what happened in Finding way to Fisher Island.

Here’s a video from The Union News showing the worker’s perspective.

Question for everyone following the protest: The workers are protesting because of low wages which average $13.81/hour, when the rest of Miami is making minimum wage ($6.67/hour) for similar jobs. Is it because they work for the rich that they expect to make more? Just food for thought.
